Monday, April 6, 2009, marks the beginning of the first major phase of 2010 Census field operations. This phase is Address Canvasing, and will last for 12 weeks. You can expect U.S. Census Bureau employees going door-to-door in neighborhoods to update address lists. These employees are titled "listers" or "enumerators."
You can identify Census Bureau employees by their badge and HHC (Hand Held Computer). Lister's badges are not photo ID's, but will display their names. They can show their state issued photo ID upon request for name badge comparison. Questions of legitimacy can be addressed to the Edwardsville Early Local Census Office at 618-307-3177.
Listers may ask residents questions about their households if prompted by their HHC. For example, they might ask if there are additional living quarters in a particular household.
